Your retreat experience

Your retreat is hosted by Sarah, who is there to ensure everything runs smoothly while creating a warm and welcoming environment.

You’ll have the option to connect with others if you wish, but there is never any pressure to socialise. Whether you prefer complete solitude or light conversation, you’re free to shape your experience in a way that feels right for you.

Reading prescriptions

Our reading prescriptions are a bespoke book recommendation service. We will work with you find the perfect books for the weekend and beyond.

Whether it be a classic tomes, contemporary novels or inspiring memoirs, your prescription will provide you with a range of options to inspire and entertain. You are also welcome to bring any books you’d like to read - there’s no set requirements.

You will receive a written prescription and a selection of the prescribed books for your retreat.  Each prescription is completely different and personalised to each person. You may also purchase a reading prescription separate to a retreat.

Frequently asked questions

  • You are welcome to read whatever you’d like – it’s not a book club, and there’s no prescribed reading or themes. You can bring books from home that you’ve been wanting to read, or read the books given to you from your personalised prescription. Lots of second-hand books will also be available for you around the property - you can read any of them, and you are welcome to take one or two home if something catches your eye (or swap for any books you might finish over the weekend!).

  • Solo travellers are always welcome. Many of our guests attend solo, and retreats are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming whether you’re travelling solo or with others. You will have your own room and never be placed with someone you don’t know.

  • There’s never any pressure to socialise - you can choose your level of interaction with others. The number of guests at each retreat are intentionally kept small to create a calm, intimate atmosphere. Retreats are designed to give you the freedom to enjoy quiet solitude or connect with other readers if you wish. We can bring you breakfast in bed, dinner in your room or set you up with a picnic, whatever you’d like.
